River Spey Angling Associations
A feature of the Spey is the amount of high-quality association fishing available. There are several long-established angling associations on the river with beats ranging from the river mouth to the upper reaches. All the associations offer reasonable priced access to the Spey. In the lower reaches salmon are the main target with sea trout and trout of increasing importance further upstream.

Speymouth Angling Association has three kilometres of fishing in the very lower reaches of the Spey. Some of the pools hold fish from early season and there is always the chance of a very fresh Spey fish.
Fochabers Angling Association offer fishing on 1.3km of river immediately upstream of Speymouth Angling Association. The beat lies below the Gordon Castle Fishing and can provide excellent sport. Day tickets are limited and angling pressure is generally light.
Aberlour Angling Association offers great value fishing in the prime middle river. Included within its waters is the lower half of the Boat Pool, reputed to be one of the most dependable on the river. Considered to be best in high water conditions it can provide prolific catches.

Strathspey Angling Improvement Association offers access to 6.5 miles of first class angling on the Spey at Grantown. Regarded as some of the best angling association water in Scotland its catches are the envy of many private beats. The salmon and sea trout fishing can be excellent.
Abernethy Angling Association has over 6 miles of fishing upstream of Grantown. This area produces a high proportion of the Spey sea trout catch as well as good salmon catches.
Badenoch Angling Association controls the fishing in an extensive area of the upper river. The main attraction is the trout fishing with the occasional salmon.
Tomintoul Angling Association offers salmon and sea trout angling on the River Avon (pronounced A’an). The Avon is reputed to have Scotland’s clearest water and the angling on the river is a delight, with many loyal anglers returning year after year.
River Avon Fishing Association has three beats on the A’an with approx., 3.9 miles total length, split into three beats, with four rods maximum on each beat allowed. Beats 1 and 2 are double bank fishing and beat 3 which is 1.9 miles in length is single bank fishing where on the opposite side of the river (Ballindalloch Estate) they allow 2 rods max.
